Along with Khonsu and Amun was the worship of the Theban triad, which, through these connections, became the holiest in the land. It is an area of more than two square kilometers, and it has under it the hypostyle hall, which is the most captivating of all the temples there.

These world-famous Colossi of Memnon were made by the great King Amenhotep III (1386 - 1349 BC) in 1350 BC. They were then transported from Cairo to Luxor, a distance of about 700 meters. They were then placed into the ruins of the Amenhotep II funerary temple. Rebuilt several times, it was most famous for its acoustical qualities during the Greco-Roman period.
